Build an Air Conditioner Fence

If you are worried about any harm that could be brought on to your air conditioner, be it a harsh environment or it being vandalized, then this article is for you. Through this article you can build a fence to keep your air conditioner safe, protecting it from any harm. This fence is not limited to only air conditioners but can be used to any machine that is attached outside your house. Building a fence is really easy and you don't need to have any prior experience to build one.

Dimensional lumber

Block post

Step 1

Making an air conditioner fence is really easy. All you need is some dimensional fence that is readily available online or at your local wood supply shop. If you have planks of wood at home you could cut them into stripes and those could be used in building this fence.

The wood being used is not pressure treated, if you use a pressure treated wood and it gets wet then you will need to wait for it to dry out before you can apply any paint onto it.

Step 2

You will need to cut out 8 pieces of 2x4 into 42 inch sections, this will make your fence a bit taller. You will then have to drill two pocket holes on either side of the wood on four of the wood pieces as the pieces that will be placed at the top and the bottom won’t be needing these holes.

You then have to clamp them together on a flat surface, this is done so that the wood planks are in line.

Then add wood glue to the ends when you nail them together, this will make them more secure. When you are adding screws to the pocket holed you have to keep in mind the thickness of the material, you need to add a screw that is big enough to actually hole the pieces together. This will act as a frame for the fence. You now need to make another one of these frames.

Step 3

When you are done making two of these frames. You will then have to cut down other pieces that will go across the fence, the slates used to cut by 1x4s, you will then have to sand out the cut edges and the face of the wood, this is done to make the painting process better. You will need 20 of these pieces in total.

Step 4

You will now have to lay out all of it on a flat surface, before you lay the wood pieces you will need to cover the surface with some plastic wrap or some newspaper, this is so that you don’t get paint onto your surface. You will then need a paint roller and gently apply paint on all of the wood pieces.

You need to apply a thick coat of paint on all the sides of the wood, make sure that the paint dries up on one side before you move on to the other sides, you can paint the fence in a colour you prefer, painting it in the same colour as your house paint would be a good choice, however, be creative with your paint, as it can also make it look unique and eye catching.

Step 5

Once you are done painting you can start playing the wood slats over the frame and screening them on, while you are screwing the slats you need to make sure that all of them are equally spaced, with equal distance from each other.

Step 6

Next you will need to make spikes for the fence, these will help keep the fence sturdy and if you want to change the fence in the future all you have to do is take them out, of this you will need a long block of wood, you will need to carve a spike at one end of the block, you can do this with the help of a saw, make another spike. Then you will need to have the spike part of the wood into the ground, insert it where you were planning to attach the fence, you will then have to attach the fence made to each of the block posts, you can attach the fence to the post by drilling some screws through them.

You are now done with your fence.
