Is movie night with your friends and family ruined because of the small screen of your laptop? What if we told you that we have a simple DIY for you by which you can comfortably sit and watch your favorite movies. Make this seamless projector with minimal materials so you no longer have to watch on a small screen. Read ahead to find out how it is made.
Products needed for this DIY project:
1. Craft cardboard
4. Small glass mirror
5. Biconvex lens
7. Glue gun
Gather all these products and let’s get started!
To make the main body of the projector bring out a piece of craft cardboard and draw a vertical line in the center. Equidistant from this middle line, draw two more lines to mark out the outer sections. Now you need to draw three horizontal lines that are equidistant from one another. Your sheet should look something like the one in the picture given below.
Take the lens that you are going to be using for the projector and trace it out on the bottom of the sheet as given in the picture and cut it out. You even need to cut out some right-angled triangles branching out from the horizontal lines.
Fold along all the lines that you have drawn so that it forms a box that is open from the top. To make the structure even stronger, glue on some pieces of cardboard or even use some tape along the edges.
Make a hole on all the four corners of the bottom of the box structure for the dowels using a screw and insert the dowels in. Using a glue gun, you also need to glue in the straws on all four corners of the box from the inside and cut off the excess.
Take a small glass mirror and insert it into the box at a 45-degree angle. Once you’ve got the positioning right you can glue the mirror in place.
Cut out a rectangular piece of cardboard with a cut out in the middle where your phone would rest. Make four holes in the corners of the rectangle and fit them on the dowels using a glue gun as shown in the picture.
Now it’s time to put in the lens of the projector. Use a biconvex lens and fit it in the hole we had created in the box earlier.
Since there is a vast space between the mobile phone and the mirror there is ample space for the light to escape from the side. So, to prevent this from happening we need to make a collapsible covering. For this purpose, follow the steps given below:
- Take a sheet of paper and draw lines as shown in the image given below.
- Cut off a two-inch strip and fold along the zig zag lines. Repeat this process once again to get the side coverings.
- For the center covering, take another sheet of paper, draw horizontal lines across the page and fold along the lines while alternating back and forth. Repeat this process once more to obtain the covering for the opposite side.
- Paint the paper black and stick these four pieces of paper together from the sides to form a hollow collapsible covering.
- Fit this covering around the projector’s dowels using double sided tape.
Your smartphone projector is now ready for your next movie night with your friends and family! Watch your favorite movies by using this ultimate projector box!
