There could be many reasons why a secret room is necessary. If you work in an industry that involves dangerous equipment and you have a home office it’s always better to keep it away from the reach of children. Or if you just need some alone time to wind down after a long day a secret room that no one else knows about could be very helpful. If you’re interested, read more to find out how this is made!
Products needed for this DIY project:
1. 2 x 4
3. Hollow core door
5. 1 x 4
6. Drywall mud
11. Miter saw
Let’s get started with our DIY project!
To make the wall that will be dividing the two rooms, we need to make a wooden frame on which we will be attaching a drywall on each side. You can simply use 2 x 4s cut to length for this purpose. For the length, you need to measure the height of the room and for the breadth, you need to measure the width of the room. You can make multiple frames connected to each other instead of making a single frame. You also need to attach 2 x 4s vertically in the middle of the frame to give it additional support. Don’t forget to screw it together from all the sides, that is, into the walls on the side, the ceiling, and the floor. If you need to insert any electricals onto the wall this would be the perfect time to do it.
Once the frame of the wall is up, let’s start working on our secret door that will also act as the back panel of our wardrobe. For this, we will be using a hollow core door cut to length. Attach this to the side of the wooden frame with the help of some hinges. Make sure to put the door in such a way that it will open into the next room rather than the wardrobe that you will be constructing in front of it.
This unique project includes a unique wardrobe build. We will be making the wardrobe in the corner on two perpendicular walls to cover the secret door. This will comprise of the main door, two side pieces, and an inner piece. To make the side piece and inner piece we will be using 1 x 4 boards. Cut two strips of the same width and the last strip should be half the width. Screw the two pieces of the same width together at a ninety-degree angle. Then connect the smaller piece of it at an angle using some screws and wood glue. Repeat the same process to make another side and inner piece. Now simply screw these on the two sides: one on the wooden frame and the other on the wall perpendicular to it. Keep enough distance for the door between these two pieces.
To make the door of the wardrobe we will be using two pieces of wood cut to length using a woodcutter. To add a rustic element to the doors just like the one done in the video, you can use strips of 1/4 inch plywood and attach them to the doors using some wood glue and screws. once the doors are ready, simply screw them onto the frames by using some hinges.
Now it’s time to attach the drywall to our wooden frame. Cut your drywall according to the dimensions of the wooden frame. We will need at least one drywall on both sides of the wooden frame. If you want to soundproof the rooms then you have the option to put additional drywalls. You can simply attach this drywall to the wooden frames by screwing it on with the help of some screws and a drill. Just make the necessary holes in the drywall to accommodate any electronics that you have inserted on our newly made wall.
Finally, it’s time to complete the last few finishing steps. You can fill in some drywall mud to fill in any gaps that may be formed in the drywall so that the whole thing is an even surface. Once this is done you can paint the wall and your wardrobe whichever color you like. You can even put some more decorative supplies on the wall and in the wardrobe if you want.
Your secret room through a wardrobe is now complete! Not only will this enable you to have a secret room that no one knows about but it’s also good use of space since we’re adding a wardrobe to the empty space. The best part of this DIY project is that you can customize it in whichever way you want to suit your needs. Enjoy your latest creation!
