Those of you who own a Nintendo Switch know how annoying it is to store its tiny games. They come in such big boxes and if you remove them then you’re at risk of losing them because they’re so small. We’ve come up with a way to make a storage box for your Nintendo Switch games! Taking advantage of the removable Nintendo Switch controllers we have made this design so that it’s super easy to make and it stores all your games well Read more to find out how it is made.
Products needed for this DIY project:
1. Nintendo switch controllers
3. Wood glue
4. Craft foam
7. 3D printer
Let’s get started with this DIY project!
For the first step, you need to remove the two removable controllers that are attached to the Switch’s portable screen and measure their flat side. This step is very essential as it will form the basis of all your future measurements for this DIY project.
Next, you need to take some thin plywood and cut out two squares whose sides are equal to the length of the flat side of the Switch. Using the same length, you need to cut out four pieces of the same length that are half a centimetre wide and two more pieces of the same width but just a centimetre shorter in length.
Now it’s time to assemble the body of our storage box. With the help of some wood glue stick two of the half centimeter long pieces of wood on one side of the square piece of wood one on top of the other with the help of some wood glue. Repeat this for two other sides of the square too. Once all the small pieces have been glued in place, stick the second square on top of this structure to make a box with an opening. Sand the edges down to give it a smoother finish.
Since the box is made, let’s move on to making the sliding tray. Cut off another square from your plywood piece which is slightly smaller than the previous squares. Cut three more small strips of wood whose length is equal to the square you just cut and the width is a little smaller than a centimeter. Glue these three pieces on the three sides of the small square with the help of some wood glue. Cut another long piece of wood that is equal to the length of your bigger square and stick it on the fourth side of the smaller square. Sand this structure down too so that it has a smooth finish. Your sliding tray is now ready!
To make the slots for the games that will fit in the tray, take some two-millimeter craft foam and cut out six shapes that resemble the one given in the picture below. Repeat the same process so you have two sheets of foam with six slots in them. Stick both these pieces of craft foam on the tray. Insert this tray into the main body of the storage box to see if it fits.
Next, we need to make the railings for the storage box to be connected to the two controllers. With the help of a 3D printer, print two railings that are equal to the length of the flat side of the controller so that they can easily slide onto its side. Make sure to leave the necessary spaces for the fixtures of the controllers.
The final step is to screw the railings onto the storage box. With the help of a drill, carefully make two holes on either side of the storage box. Connect the railings to the storage box using some small screws. Once this is done slide the box onto the two controllers using the railings.
Your storage box for your Nintendo Switch games is now complete. Store all your favorite games in the slots of the tray that we just made so that they’re easily accessible whenever needed. You can easily slide the storage box off whenever you need to connect your phone or the portable screen of your Nintendo Switch. Enjoy your latest creation!
